Expanding the Herd

Jenny & Snickers were bred in November, 2024. They both were first-time moms and they did an amazing job.

Snickers threw us for a loop when she didn’t look like her normal self, so I decided to start putting alarms on so we could be up for the births. This was my first time kidding and I had no idea how it was going to go and by the box of "kidding supplies” I ordered, my breeder thought I was overly prepared. I specifically set my alarm for 10pm, on Wednesday April 9th at 8:45pm - about an hour to see how she was going to progress. Well, I woke up to my alarm and she already had her boys and were half cleaned up by the time I put some heavy clothes on. I waited and watched what she was going to do and what she was going to allow me to witness. Snickers is a loner - so I was curious on how much she was going to allow me to help. She did allow me to finish drying them off and getting them under the heat lamp. I was just thrilled with the opportunity to share her miracle.

Beautiful Boys - Walter & Grant.

Then we were waiting for Jenny to grace us with her baby. At the time - she barely looked pregnant and I bet my husband that there was only ONE in there. I was already exhausted from the night before, but I honestly couldn’t wait for her to give birth. Same protocol - except this time I was determined not to miss it. Alarm went off at 10pm, Thursday April 10th - and there Jenny was with ONE boy already. Yippee, but poop, I missed it again :( Except I didn’t. I stuck around to make sure he latched and low and behold - ANOTHER BOY graced us. I’ve never witnessed so much dedication from an animal. I am blessed to have that moment with her. Jenny was overwhelmed with two, so she did slightly forget about the second - but I was there to take action. Cleaned him up enough so she could finish the job.

Beautiful Boys - Jackson & Ernest.

And I just couldn’t help myself…

Cosette & Gemma

Wouldn’t you believe it, but their Dad is the baby boys’ Dad too! Hickory from Wing & Wheel Farm in Marshall really is the stud of the year for 2024.

I was happy to work with another local goat farmer to obtain these beauties. They are registered Nigerian Dwarf girls and they will help with our succession plan. They will grow and have time with the current herd before they are old enough to be bred. Fingers crossed for successful breeding in Late 2026.
